The Night Circus
by Erin Morgenstern

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love - a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart.

My Book Review

The Circus arrives without warning...

This was my 700th read and what a magical, precious story it turned out to be.
Not to mention, the perfect Hallowe'en read.

The Night Circus narrated the story of The Night Circus, a magical circus where an even more magical competition was hosted, unbeknown to its members. That wasn't a simple contest, however, but a fight to death between Celia and Marco. At least, that was until the two youths fell madly in love.

There were so many things I deeply loved in this book.
For one, the writing style, so lyrical and easily flowing, that one could describe it even magical! Each chapter was small and quick making you part of the action and unable to put it down.

The characters were even more precious than the book, and I loved them all, getting attached even to the ones who were troublesome. We start the book by getting to know Celia and Marco as they grow up, across the years, and soon we get acquainted to other significant characters for the storyline, even if we don't realize their importance right away.

The magic system of this story was extremely unique and unusual, as it featured magic that could be actually taught, which I found a fascinating aspect, and now I wish for someone to teach me, too!

If there was one thing that mildly threw me off were the lengthy descriptions, which were quite often but not present in every chapter. They made the book feel especially slow in the beginning, although, that, thankfully, changed the more we proceeded into the story and its protagonists.

To sum upThe Night Circus blew me away and surpassed my expectations, just like the Circus brought everyone together and made so many members of the public fiercely love it.

The last 3 pages even gave me goosebumps...
