Kiss the boys and make them cry...

The gods are gone.
The people have forgotten them.
But sixteen-year-old Rachel Patel can't forget - the gods control her life, or more specifically, her love life.

Being a Hedoness, one of a strong group of women descended from Greek God Eros, makes true love impossible for Rachel. She wields the power of that magical golden arrow, and with it, the promise to take the will of any boy she kisses. But the last thing Rachel wants is to force someone to love her . . .

When seventeen-year-old Benjamin Blake's disappearance links back to the Hedonesses, Rachel's world collides with his, and her biggest fear becomes a terrifying reality. She's falling for him - a messy, magnetic, arrow-over-feet type of fall.

Rachel distances herself, struggling to resist the growing attraction, but when he gives up his dream to help her evade arrest, distance becomes an insurmountable task. With the police hot on their trail, Rachel soon realizes there are darker forces hunting them - a group of mortals recruited by the gods who will stop at nothing to preserve the power of the Hedonesses - not to mention Eros himself, who is desperate to reverse the curse . . .

Rachel must learn to do what no Hedoness has done before - to resist her gift - or she'll turn the person she's grown to love into a shadow of himself ... for ever.

My review:
What drew me right in this novel from the very first few sentences, was the writing style.
It seemed so friendly and inviting to me, that I couldn't put the book down for hours on end.

But, apart from the fab and refreshing voice of the author, really, the fact that I loved this book is no mystery as it contained so many of the elements I like in a good book.
It was inspired by Greek mythology - and, as a Greek, I deeply adore all the myths, especially the well-known plump little baby angel, Eros, and his arrows!
And, to top it all off? It was a contemporary read, which means that the Greek myths come to our modern world. What could be better than that? Like, seriously!

Anyway, I liked our heroine, Rachel, very much, and I deeply enjoyed experiencing this unique story from her point of view.
The - forbidden, might I add - romance was swoon-worthy and I just couldn't get enough of Rachel and Benjamin!
But, what deeply captured my attention while reading this novel were the plots and twists - although, that cliffhanger in the end of the book did destroy me a bit!

I seriously need the next book in this fabulous new series, yesterday!

All in all, 4 stars to a fantastic read, I recommend to everyone, especially if they like a good blend of mythology in the modern world and forbidden romance!

Goodreads Blurb:

Dear Logan,
Someday I'm going to write a book: How Not to Die in Alaska - A Girl's Guide to Fashionable Survival.
I bet you don't know that a hair pin can make an excellent fishing hook. You may think you can use just any kind of mud for mud masks, but trust me, you CAN'T! In a pinch, nothing starts a fire like nail polish remover. Alaska is tough. You might know this, if you ever replied to my letters.
After Maddie's Secret Service dad takes a bullet for the president, he takes Maddie somewhere he thinks they'll be safe - far away from the White House and the president's son, Logan.
But when Logan comes to Alaska, so does the danger.
If there's one thing Alaska has taught Maddie, it's how to survive. And now her best friend's life depends on it ...

My review:

I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for providing a free copy for me to read in exchange for an honest review.

Ally Carter did it again...

This is how I sum up my experience with this book.

I have been an avid Ally Carter loyal follower and admirer ever since I read her Gallagher Girls series (which I still need to finish, but anyway), and never up 'till now has she ever failed to capture my attention and make me lover her books.

This is the case with this book, as well. I was quickly sucked into its uniqueness (because I have never before read such a capturing and adventurous novel, set in ALASKA nonetheless), and found myself enjoying every minute of it.

I loved so many things in this book. Maddie and Logan, and the weird and sudden turn of events that changed their lives forever all those years ago, the fact that this book was set in Alaska, the bad guys, the fact that our heroes were so clever and Maddie actually kicked some serious butt.
And, then I was so anxious over everything, and how they would survive and return home sound and safe, whether they would manage to salve their relationship.

So good, so good. Made me remember why I can't go without an Ally Carter novel for long. Like, seriously, it's become an addiction.

All in all, 4 stars for an amazing survival story that
kept me rooted to my spot throughout the whole adventure.

Oh, in Alaska, too!

Four elite fae warriors. One mortal female. A magical bond they can’t allow—or resist.

Orphaned and sold to a harsh master, Lera’s life is about mucking stalls, avoiding her master’s advances, and steering clear of the mystical forest separating the mortal and fae worlds. Only fools venture into the immortal realms, and only dark rumors come out... Until four powerful fae warriors appear at Lera’s barn.

River, Coal, Tye, and Shade have waited a decade for their new fifth to be chosen, the wounds from their quint brother’s loss still raw. But the magic has played a cruel trick, bonding the four immortal warriors to... a female. A mortal female.

Distractingly beautiful and dangerously frail, Lera can only be one thing—a mistake. Yet as the males bring Lera back to the fae lands to sever the bond, they discover that she holds more power over their souls than is safe for anyone... especially for Lera herself.

Power of Five is a full-length reverse-harem fantasy novel.

My review:

This is the very first novel of a brand new series. And, what an introduction to the series!
Lera and her quint's story had grasped my undivided attention from the very first paragraph, so well-written and adventurous from the first 'till the last chapter, making you craving for more and urging you to get the next book right away.
It's really no wonder I read "Power of Five" in one sitting.

At this point you might be wondering what I meant by "Lera's quint" earlier. So, first things first.
Our story starts with the four male Fae mighty warriors watching over the newly (and magically) appointed part of their group. They are called a quint, which should always consist of 5 Fae members.
So, what is going to happen to their quint when magic decides that Lera, a mere 20-year-old female mortal should join them?

The short answer? A truly earth-shattering sequence of events.

The only thing that is certain is that this bond can prove dangerous not just for the mortal Lera, but for everyone, in many different ways.

At this point, I would also like to add that, although this book is a reverse harem, it surely isn't just for fans of this particular genre.
In contrast, if you like anything from fantasy and Fae, to strong, independent women and tall, brooding males, you will positively adore this novel.

It was also so well-written and -structured that it only made me more itchy to find more of the author's works and add them to my TBR pile immediately.

All in all, 5 stars for an amazing read that kept me
glued to my kindle until "The End" and
a story I can never recommend enough.

Every witch knows the rules:

Stick to your own kind. Never reveal your powers to outsiders. Take a consort from the witching families or kiss your magic good-bye forever.

For years I've been quiet, obedient Rose Hallowell. I accepted the man my stepmother chose for me. But I never stopped missing my long-ago friends.

Now we're back on my childhood estate to arrange my marriage. The boys I grew up with? They're still in town—and they haven't forgotten me either. And damn if they haven't grown up well.

They've got no magic, no place in my life. But they're charming and sweet and infuriatingly hot, and I can't seem to stay away. The more I try to resist, the more secrets I uncover about my family, my betrothal, and everything I thought was true about the witching world.

I've been lied to. I've been betrayed. So to claim my magic and my happiness, I'll break every rule there is—and then some.

Don't mess with this witch. Every rose has thorns.

*Consort of Secrets is the first full-length novel in a steamy reverse harem paranormal romance series. Take a dollop of gothic atmosphere, add a heaping of romantic angst, and mix it up with five enticing young men and a passionate witch just coming into her own.*

My review:

I have to admit that it had been positively ages since the last time I read a reverse harem novel.
And, Consort of Secrets is just the kind of book that if you are even a little bit interested in that genre, your interest is sparked right away. In a major way.

First things first, what amazed me more about this book was the fact that the pages were flowing so easily and quickly, that I ended up devouring it in almost one sitting. It was perfectly written, with the story progressing in just the right pace, and, I might add, seemingly effortlessly by the author.
The combination of a well-thought plot and a great talent in writing, provides amazing results.

Rose is a great heroine, one I definitely enjoyed reading about. She even has as her 'imaginary' best friend, a character from her favorite book. And, believe me, there had been countless times in the past when I would fantasize about being best friends with my favorite heroines, too.
Another interesting trivia was that Rose and I had the exact same age in the start of the novel. 3 months to becoming 25 years old.
It was such an awesome coincidence to be able to identify with so many of Rose's attributes, that it just had to be added to my enthusiasm.

As for what makes the book fall into its genre?
This harem was literally goals, consisting from so many different types of men. From the always helpful and charming Ky to the bad boy Damon, and everyone else in between.
Just like our heroine, I found a hard time not to be mesmerized by each and every one of these boys.
The author did an amazing job in describing all of the romantic interests both physically, but most importantly, emotionally and behavior-wise.

All in all, 5 glorious stars for a read that
made me feel for the heroine and her harem,
made me swoon, and most of all,
made me deeply admire and fan-girl over the author's writing.
