My Review:
This was a quite interesting and a bit unusual read for me!
I had intended to finish it and post my review sooner, but I needed to get better used to it, before starting to think about the mysteries surrounding the hero and the cases in which he has been involved!
This is mainly because a whole new world, that was submitted to the superior beings, Vanir, was described in this novel, which also had its own set of rules and laws!
In this world, the people that commit a crime have to face a choice! They either be imprisoned or undergo something like a sentimental and psychological execution, meaning that they continue to live normally, but can't feel anymore the normal feelings that any person can feel!
This is mainly a way to ensure that the "sanctioned" - as those people are called - won't feel the urge to kill or commit a crime again!
Our main hero, has already been through such a "treatment", which was a little unexpected for me!
You don't usually read about heroes that can't feel the normal sentiments anymore!
Quite an interesting and original take!
The situation doesn't remain normal, though!
Actually, from the very first page, we are very interestingly thrown into a deep mystery, which gets more and more complicated by the chapter!
As I mentioned before, our hero, Tully, has already been sanctioned.
But, a mystery which involves the death of a Vanir - an accomplishment who is considered practically impossible for anyone that is not a Vanir themselves - is ongoing!
And, what is even more impossible is that ALL of the evidence leads to Tully!!!
While reading this book I caught myself trying to understand what could really be hidden behind this crime, and even if I was convinced of Tully's sanctioned nature, I kept reconsidering his innocence and his involvement in everything!
All in all, 4 stars for a totally original and unique read,
which also had so many psychological elements and
interesting and mysterious characters, that you just have to keep reading!
